The Remote Sensing Applications Center (ReSAC) was established with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN in 1998 through the project TCP/BUL/8922.

Till the end of 2004 it was part of the Bulgarian Aerospace Agency - BASA as its R&D structure.

From the beginning of 2005 ReSAC is registered as an independent juridical body and during last 10 years works very close to the Agency for Sustainable Development and Eurointegration - ASDE.

As ASDE has signed a Collaboration Agreement with JRC - EU for the period of 2007 – 2010 and 2011-2016, in this Agreement ReSAC was designated as focal point of ASDE for providing service capability, mainly in R&D area, including EU CAP.

The general goal of ReSAC is to develop RS/GIS applications to agricultural and environmental management, land cover/land use, soil and forest inventory, water resources, environmental hazards, disaster management, risk assessment, urban planning.

ReSAC actively participates in regional and international projects independently and in partnership conducts trainings to enhance skills of the state and local government, and also in support of students.

ReSAC is a member of the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies - EARSC since 2005.

ReSAC maintains a qualified specialist competent in a wide range of RS/GIS applications, who benefited of tuitions and on-job trainings organized by FAO/UN, GTOS/FAO, GEOSYS, DLR, AED-SICAD/SIEMENS, Voice-Insight, ISTAR/INFOTERRA, ESA/ESRIN/ESTEC, DG JRC/EC, Map Media, ESRI and others.

As a research Center ReSAC promotes:

  • Research & Development of methodologies, innovations
  • Distribution of Satellite Data
  • Consultancy
  • Education and Trainings

ReSAC offers value-added services, such as:

  • Image Processing
  • GIS Data Services
  • Fast Track Services

ReSAC/ASDE is a distributor for Bulgaria of the main worldwide satellite image providers, such as e-GEOS, Airbus Defence and Space, EUSI and others.

ReSAC elaborates techniques for data integration of different sources, including in-situ measurements. We offer image processing services, which include the whole set of procedures required to bring the imageries to the end-user in a ready-to-use state, e.g. image ordering, orthorectification, enhancement, classification, 3D models etc.

For the years since its establishment, ReSAC has fulfilled and participated in numerous projects both at local and international scales. Programs such as GMES, INSPIRE, GAEC, GEOSS, FLOOD DIRECTIVE are of high priority to ReSAC.

The most important ReSAC projects in the area of Land cover/Land Use, Control of Agrosubsidies with Remote Sensing /CwRS/, Establishment of Land Parcel Identification System /LPIS/, AgroEnv Indicators, Digital orthomap preparation /DOM/, Fast Track Services /FTC/, Voice Technology Development, Mapping areas with significant potential flood risk /Flood Risk Directive/ and others.

They are funded by FAO/UN, DG JRC, EC/FP6, FP7, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ministry of Environment and Water, River Basin Directorate, others.

ReSAC is very active in EC/FP7/GMES, participating in Geoland 2, SAFER, COSMOS 1,2, EUFODOS, HELM, ЕAGLE projects.
